Apply for Foundation Funding

The Abele Family Foundation accepts grant applications through a two-stage process for most programs: a brief Letter of Intent (LOI) followed by an invited full proposal. This approach respects applicants' time by allowing the Foundation to assess preliminary fit before requesting a detailed application. Below you will find an overview of the application process, current deadlines, required materials, and a preliminary inquiry form for prospective applicants.

Application Process

1

Letter of Intent

Submit a two-page Letter of Intent describing your organization, the proposed project or program, the geographic community served, the requested grant amount, and how the project aligns with one of the Foundation's five program areas. LOIs are reviewed by the program staff and Grant Review Committee. Applicants whose projects align with Foundation priorities are invited to submit a full proposal. The LOI stage typically takes four to six weeks from the submission deadline to invitation notifications.

2

Full Proposal

Invited applicants submit a full proposal including a detailed project narrative (not to exceed 10 pages), a line-item project budget, organizational budget, board list, IRS determination letter, most recent audited financial statements, and two letters of support from community stakeholders. The Foundation may request a site visit or phone interview to supplement the written proposal. Full proposals are reviewed by the Grant Review Committee with recommendations presented to the full Board for final approval.

3

Award & Reporting

Approved grantees receive a formal grant agreement specifying the award amount, payment schedule, reporting requirements, and grant period. Grantees submit interim narrative and financial reports at six months and a final report within 60 days of the grant period's end. Multi-year grants require annual renewal applications with updated budgets and progress narratives. The Foundation's program staff are available throughout the grant period for technical assistance and strategic consultation.
